2020 Exhibition at the Carpet Museum: If the carpets spoke...

…they woud tell us their story. On the Silk Road, from China to Turkey, we’ve made, for centuries, numerous carpets by hand that seem at first sight, all different from each other.

By looking closer, these carpets were made from a small number of standard plans (less than ten) that appeared successively, each one in its turn, without removing the previous one, in order to constitute a repertoire from which the current creativity of the weavers still draws today.

These types of carpetsare not just decorative plan organization games. They are charged with deeply human symbolic meanings of universal value. They thus testify to a thought, a sensitivity, a belief whose communication channel uses the various expressive means offered by the carpet.
